A half English as well as Spanish she is the daughter of Dennis Alan Taylor a former banker, and Jennifer Marina Joy a psychologist. Her father is Argentine with Scottish-English heritage. Her mother's ancestry is Spanish and English. The Taylor-Joy family was a family of six children. Four are her siblings from the previous marriage to Taylor's father. They lived within Buenos Aires until she was six then relocated to the Victoria part of London. Taylor Joy admitted that the transition from Buenos Aires, to Victoria was a struggle and she did not learn English and was hoping to go home to Argentina. Hill House had to be her new school after she changed schools from Northlands. Later, she enrolled in Queen's Gate School to study dance and perform in the school's productions. After she turned 16, she dropped out of school in order to make a career of acting. From a young age Taylor-Joy had a dream to become an actress and her goals were realized when she was approached for a modeling gig at the hands of Sarah Doukas the founder of Storm Management.
